4. Refugee “Meet & Greet” Role Play    - Due Mon Jan 26th

Each student in our class will be given a true story from an actual refugee.  The first-hand account, interview, or article will tell this person’s story as a refugee.  At the end of the week, we will be having a “Meet & Greet” where each of you will take on the role of this individual:  you will act, speak, and become this person for a short amount of time (~20-30 minutes).  

To help you understand and step into the role, you will need to read the information about your refugee role very closely so that you can effectively get into character and role-play this person at the “Meet & Greet”.  To help you do this I am asking you to do two things:

First:  Read through the article/interview/story/biography carefully and answer a few short questions about this individual.

Second:  I would like you to describe this character to another person in your household, and have them verify that you did this by signing below.

Third:

On a separate sheet of paper, answer the following in complete sentences using information from the article.  You may not be able to locate all of this information in the piece (each story is unique), and you may need to imagine what it would have been like for this person, using what you have learned so far about refugee experiences.

• The person’s name and the names of people in their family
• The names of important places in this person’s life, and why they are important
• The reason(s) this person has fled from their original home.  Be specific.
• Where this person flee from, and what the journey was like.  Be specific.
• Where did this person flee to?  Where are they now?
• Other parts of this person’s story you find compelling and important to share when you take on their role during the “Meet & Greet”
