2. Celebrate MLK Day of Service at the SE Hawthorne Burgerville with- Sarah Taylor

Here is an activity that is kid / family friendly for MLK Day.  Burgerville is supporting Vitamin Angels give children and pregnant women vitamins all over the world and the US. 

SES students  can help serve food and bus tables.  I'll have other service type activities."   

Monday, January 19th - Dinner 5 to 8 PM students will help bus tables ( a percentage of sales will go to Vitamin Angels)

3. River Litter Pick-up....put on by 8th grade Animal Cohort!

WHAT: The Animal Cohort Group is hosting a river cleanup on MLK day,

Shawnalee and I are co-facilitators for the group and will both be in attendance,

Wear closed toed sturdy shoes or puddle boots.

This is service work done on everyone's personal time, not part of a school sponsored activity. 

Please know each person is responsible for themselves, their comings and goings and their own actions.

WHERE : Tom McCall Waterfront Park (Think where the Blues Festival is held)

We will clean up along the rivers edge - the beach and up along through the rocks that go from the river up to the path that leads from the Hawthorne bridge to a bit south of the boat launch.

WHEN: 12:45  - 3:15 pm Monday January 19th.

Meet at SES at 12:45 and we'll depart shortly thereafter to go to the site - or meet us there around 1:20.

We will have a vehicle or two, as well as bus tickets

If meeting us there, please let me know you are coming so we can look for you.

Students may leave from the park on their own or return with us to SES around 3:15.

WHY: SolveOregon is a group that promotes healthy waterways and lands for our plants and animals.  

They have provided us with trash bags, rubber gloves and a sharps receptacle.  

We will have fun recording what types of stuff we found, what was the most common and most interesting.

Additionally we will keep some of the "trash"  to do art projects with in the future for display.  

It's a day to make a difference.

1. Go to the Website http://www.humanrights.com/#/videos/fair-and-free-world
-Browse 10 different Human Rights Ads....
-Then watch the one assigned to you. Read the actual Human Rights Article.
Make a 8 1/2 x 11 (a regular page size) Sign depicting that human right.
Be sure to write the Article # and the words defining the Article.
Then illustrate the article thru a drawing, poem, rap, description, example
Utilize the whole space as best you can & use color (write big, drawings large enough to see from 10ft away etc)
DUE FRIDAY JAN 16th


2. Novel Groups - Read to agreed page, and be prepared to participate in your group.

7th - Rough Draft Speech complete by end of Spanish class Wed - have your speech most of the way done tonight!
Friday - 8th Grade Cohort will show a movie Homeskillet in the auditorium during math/Spanish...they would appreciate a donation for the Goose Hollow Family Shelter (canned food, scarf, gloves, socks, handwarmers, toiletries -things you think would be useful if you were living on the street)
