Friday the 13th!!!

Hi All,
Thank you so much for attending Back to School Night. It was hot and we made it! Thank you also for sending such wonderful children to school every day :)

Today we began talking about Service and what we stand for as opposed to what we stand against. Students received their service journals and on pg 11 - brainstorm 10 things they are passionate about and on pg 12 to think of some places and projects in the different categories. Students should also get familiar with their service journal. Sarah Taylor and an art school put a lot of effort into it!

Service Opportunities

• Saturday, October 5th:  Fall Canyon 2013 at Reed Canyon 9am-3pm
• Buddy Walk:  Sept. 28
• Race for the Cure:  Sept. 15 (this SUNDAY)

We also had a wonderful day at JEAN's Farm yesterday. We were introduced to Wendy the new farm coordinator, ate some delicious seasonal foods, had mini class meetings and performed some major farm work! Student ecore's are due Monday!

HW for Wed - both due tomorrow!
1. Be ready for JEAN's Farm - it's going to be HOT! Bring water and sunblock :)
2. Put finishing touches on your name vinette and print (if you do not have a printer, please come in a few minutes early and print in our room)
3. River Vocab Card - Draw a picture demonstrating the meaning of your river vocab word.  - we should be able to look at it and "see" what the words means and it should have color so it can be seen from afar. Write the definition of the word and as an extra challenge, write the title word as a picture...for example:

Greetings class of Room 210
Wow, what a hot week we are having! We are off to a great start here in Room 210. Today we started building our class agreements, began discussing rivers through visualization and watercolors and entered our first read aloud. Also, ask your child about our teambuilding activity at the end of the day - it was interesting...

HOMEWORK:
Rough Draft of Mi Nombre - due tomorrow.
Read Aloud Journal #1 - Due Friday. It is glued into Reading Journals and all answers should be recorded right after the prompt. All answers should be thoughtful and ready to be shared on Friday during class.

Homework:
1. Reading/Writing: Mi Nombre Research...choose 5 topics listed (out of 15). Answer using GREAT descriptions: imagery, simile/metaphor, 5 senses. Be ready for rough draft creation tomorrow, Tues.

Announcement:
Back to school night for parents. 6:30 in the auditorium, then to Room 210 to find out all about the river and my expectations for the year! Hope to see you there.
