- Saturday, June 4, 10am-6pm: Repaint the Sunnyside Sunflower
For 15 years, Portland's historic Sunnyside neighborhood has come together to paint a sunflower in the heart of the community. This was one of City Repair's first projects that aimed to reclaim underutilized space and creating a vibrant gathering place. The 2016 repaint will happen on Saturday, June 4 from 10am-6pm.
A lot of planning and effort goes into making this happen every year. This year, Chrissy Mulkey and neighborhood members from the Portland Street Art Alliance are organizing the event. The Sunflower Planning Crew is in need of new volunteers for assistance with creating and overseeing the kid activity zone, managing food and paint, power-washing and sweeping the intersection the day before, installing two new planter barrels and planting flowers in the parking strips. If you are interested in volunteering, email SunnysidePiazza@gmail.com to sign up.
