ALL SERVICE PROJECTS FOR 1ST QUARTER SHOULD BE COMPLETED THIS WEEKEND! (We discussed this awhile back and sorry I didn't have the opportunity to remind before now...if you child CANNOT have their 1st quarter project completed by Monday, please email me with a plan...end of quarter is on Nov. 7th, and that week we will not have our core class due to OUTDOOR SCHOOL, so this is the week to finish up all 1st quarter work.)
Here are a couple of important events coming up:
Harvest Faire: 4-7pm today Saturday, October 26th - sorry I won't be there, so have a ton of fun without me!
If you are doing this as a service project (community or school) you can count: time spent at school cooking with Vinnie, setting up the booth, working the booth or cafeteria, breaking down and cleaning up. You cannot count time spent running around having fun at the cakewalk or other cool stuff...you just get to count that as fun! :)
Day of the Dead Procession:
Friday, November 1 - this will be a 2nd Quarter project unless cleared by me as a 1at quarter project
This is a community service because Sunnyside strongly believes in participating in cultural events that help our students broaden their perspectives and understand their own culture and others. This is a fantastic and fun event! We will be painting our faces at SES after school (bring paints if you have them, dress as a calaca or something festive!) and riding Trimet downtown to take part in the 3rd annual Day of the Dead procession. This year we will walk through the park blocks to the Crystal Ballroom where there will be Aztec dancing, mariachi music and everyone can view the beautiful sugar skulls that the 8th grade Spanish students have made.
*** Ideally this is a FAMILY event that you and your child do together, or you send your child with another family. It is not a supervised school event. I am planning on participating and Several of the teachers will as well. It's a great time for us to be together (but not necessarily in charge!)
Please bring money for Trimet and to buy food at the event. Students 12 and under are free. (Basically they told me that our middle schoolers can get in free).
FUNDRAISER
Whole Foods- Sunnyside Fundraiser:
Helen Lee, the outreach coordinator and our good friend at the Laurelhurst Whole Foods has selected Sunnyside to receive 100% of the money they make at the Taste of Thanksgiving onNov. 7, from 5-8 pm.
On Monday, I will send home "passports" to sell for $5 and it is their responsibility to bring in the money this next week by Friday if possible. Checks can be made to Whole Foods and turned into me. At the end of the event, Whole Foods will write a check to Sunnyside for the GOFUND!!!!!
**This is the same day as the school dance, so stop by and have dinner at Whole Foods on the way to the dance or drop off your child and enjoy a dinner with friends!
If your child needs more passports to sell, I can get more from Whole Foods. The student who sells the most will win a basket full of chocolate!
Helen will also be at school in the mornings several days over the next few weeks with treats and an opportunity to reserve a turkey for Thanksgiving.
